Modern education faces numerous challenges related to the rapidly changing world and the demands for quality knowledge. In this context, the Federal State Educational Standard (FSES) has become the foundation for updating curricula, including in the field of mathematics education. This article examines modern teaching methods in mathematics that meet the requirements of the new FSES, which help develop mathematical thinking and critical perception among students.
The FSES emphasizes the formation of not only knowledge but also skills necessary for a successful life in modern society. In particular, it focuses on:
- Development of critical thinking: students should be able to analyze, compare, and draw conclusions.
- Problem-oriented learning: in mathematics lessons, students face real tasks that require the application of mathematical knowledge.
- Integration of subjects: connecting mathematics with other sciences for a deeper understanding and application of knowledge. Integrated learning involves:
Mathematics is one of the key subjects in the school curriculum. However, over time, new approaches and methods have emerged that help teachers convey material more effectively and develop students' mathematical thinking. With the introduction of the new Federal State Educational Standard (FSES), it is essential to use modern teaching methods in mathematics to implement the curriculum.
One of the approaches that has gained widespread popularity in modern mathematics teaching methods is problem-oriented learning [3]. The main idea of this approach is to present students with real problems that require the application of mathematical skills to solve them. This method helps students realize how mathematics can be applied in real life and develops their critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Problem-oriented learning involves students working on real tasks that require the application of mathematical skills. This not only develops critical thinking but also helps students see the practical significance of mathematics. For example, students can solve problems related to economics, physics, or engineering, making lessons more interesting and relevant [2].
Another modern method is the use of interactive technologies and online resources. This allows teachers to diversify lessons and make them more engaging for students. Various mathematical programs, games, and tasks enable students to practice their skills in a playful manner, helping them better grasp the material and develop logical thinking. The use of interactive technologies, such as interactive whiteboards, educational platforms, and mathematical applications, enriches the learning process. Teachers can apply games, simulations, and visualizations, making the study of mathematics more exciting [1]. For instance, using geometric programs helps students better understand spatial relationships and properties of figures.
Project-based activities allow students to work in groups on long-term projects that require the application of mathematical knowledge. This fosters teamwork, responsibility, and creativity. Projects can include research, model creation, or solving complex problems, helping students see the practical application of mathematics.
Modern teaching methods emphasize an individual approach to each student. This means that teachers should consider the level of preparedness, interests, and needs of students. The use of various forms of feedback and self-assessment helps students better understand their strengths and weaknesses and work on them [4].
Additionally, the focus in modern mathematics teaching methods shifts from simple memorization of formulas and algorithms to understanding mathematical concepts and studying fundamental ideas and properties. This approach helps students better comprehend mathematics and apply their knowledge in practice [5].
Modern teaching methods in mathematics within the framework of the new FSES aim to develop not only knowledge but also skills necessary for a successful life in the modern world. Problem-oriented learning, the use of interactive technologies, project-based activities, and an individual approach—all these methods contribute to a deeper understanding of mathematics and the development of critical thinking among students. It is important for teachers to actively apply these methods in their practice, making lessons more interesting and effective.
When implementing the working program in accordance with the new FSES, it is crucial to consider and use these modern teaching methods in mathematics. They will help teachers make lessons more engaging and understandable for students, as well as develop their mathematical skills and thinking.
