The emergence of dictionaries or glossaries, which preceded them, was recorded long before the appearance not only of lexicography, but also of a significant part of linguistic aspects.

In the linguistic encyclopedic dictionary, the following definition of the term "lexicography" is given: "a branch of linguistics dealing with the practice and theory of compiling dictionaries" [1, p. 258].

At the same time, a lexicographer, engaged in compiling dictionaries, acts as an intermediary or translator between an individual seeking information from a dictionary and between the societal norms of language and speech.

First and foremost, it is worth looking at the history of the appearance of dictionaries and lexicography. "Lexicography" is a compound term with ancient Greek origins: "lexicos" - lexical, and "grapho" - to write. Despite the obvious connection, the term itself does not have ancient Greek origins. The first appearance of the term "lexicography" was recorded at different times in different languages, around the VI-VII centuries, which is several centuries "behind" the appearance of dictionaries, which lexicography is concerned with.

As M.V. Moiseev noted: "dictionaries in the form we are accustomed to have a relatively recent origin. They appeared in the period following the invention and spread of printing in Europe in the mid-15th century" [2, p. 6].

In modern lexicography, dictionaries can be divided into several types based on various criteria: the purpose of the dictionary, the object of description, the order of word arrangement, the language of description, and so on.

One of the most important criteria for compiling a dictionary is the object of description. Based on this, all dictionaries can be conventionally divided into linguistic (philological) and encyclopedic dictionaries.

However, this does not negate the fact that "lexicographical work is a witness to a certain level of civilization of a people; it records the state and level of production and production relations in society, the development of philosophical, political, religious, scientific and technical thought of the ethnic group - the bearer of the language described in the dictionary" [3, p.16].

Based on the above, we can draw the following conclusion: compiling a certain type of dictionary requires a special approach that takes into account the characteristics of that type of dictionary. Moreover, even the arrangement of terms and information in a dictionary often plays an important role.

Practical lexicography sets itself the main task - to find the most optimal and acceptable ways to convey all the knowledge about language in dictionary form. Therefore, a dictionary is not only a unique and extremely necessary tool for language but also one of the most significant instruments in scientific research and work. Linguistic science aims to reflect in dictionary form all aspects of the information obtained about language.
