АННОТАЦИЯ

Данная статья посвящена определению понятия «речевое воздействие». Особое внимание уделено отличительной особенности речевого воздействия и манипулирования.

Keywords: verbal influence, manipulation, communication, linguistics, recipient, addresser.

Ключевые слова: речевое воздействие, манипуляция, коммуникация, лингвистика, адресат, адресант.

The roots of verbal influence are in rhetoric that has been developing for centuries. Nowadays, methods of psychological persuasion are of great interest for people and especially for politicians.

Traditionally, by verbal influence we mean information transfer that is extremely essential to the recipient and can have an impact on the speaker’s activity [5, p. 5].

Safina A.V. stresses that in a narrow sense verbal influence is the use of the language features to construct messages that have the ability to influence the recipient opinion [2].

According to P.B. Parshin verbal influence is "an impact on individual and/or collective consciousness and behavior by various speech means, in other words, with the help of messages in natural language"[1, p. 32].

E.V. Shelestyuk pointed out the importance of linguistic, paralinguistic and non-linguistic symbolic means in the process of speech communication and the goals of the speaker that can change the personal meaning of an object for the recipient, categorical structures of his consciousness, behavior, mental state and psychophysiological processes [6].

Some linguists write that verbal influence is a new modern science, the subject of which is the effectiveness of communication [3, p. 41]. It is obvious that there are different opinions on the issue of verbal influence and manipulation. Some believe that manipulation is a type of verbal influence, others suppose that these are two equivalent, correlated concepts.

I.A. Sternin opposes the speech influence to manipulation. He notes that in verbal influence the addresser convinces the addressee to consciously accept the point of view of the speaker or to make a decision to commit a certain act while manipulation is basically unconscious [4, p. 3].

To sum it up, verbal influence comprises three main aspects: goals, language means and the goal-driven effect that shows whether the goals are achieved or not.

Thus, it can be concluded that manipulation is closely related to verbal influence, although it has different characteristics and it can be assumed that manipulation is one of the categories of verbal influence.
