ABSTRACT

The goal of this study is to investigate the main causes of language loss. Examining past occurrences and current patterns, the research aims to shed light on the intricate elements causing language loss and their wider consequences. This study attempts to shed light on the complex processes involved in language extinction by analyzing the effects of globalization, cultural assimilation, technology, and economic changes.

Keywords: Language extinction, linguistic diversity, globalization, cultural assimilation, technological impact, economic shifts.

As a student of the linguistics department, this research embarks on a journey to understand the silent yet profound phenomenon of language extinction, and sets out to comprehend the subtle but significant process of language extinction. This investigation of the complex causes of language extinction is motivated by the important problems raised by the demise of languages around the world.

Factors Contributing to Extinction:

1. The Global Tide (Globalization):

The globe is being increasingly linked. This section explores the ways in which minor languages are impacted by this global connectedness, frequently resulting in their struggles and eventual extinction.

2. Cultural Transformation (Cultural Assimilation):

Languages rooted on customs suffer difficulties when cultures change. We can observe how groups may give up on their native tongues in favor of more commonly spoken ones due to cultural developments.

3. The Tech Revolution (Technological Impact):

The way we communicate is changing due to technology. This section examines how, in our technologically advanced day, languages that do not adjust to digital platforms may find it difficult to survive.

4. Economic Dynamics (Economic Shifts):

Money is essential to the health of language. Languages linked to traditional means of subsistence may be declining as a result of economic shifts within communities.

Consequences of Extinction:

Language extinction includes the loss of distinct cultural expressions as well as historical narratives, in addition to the loss of words. This section emphasizes the far-reaching effects on cultural identity and legacy that go beyond language barriers.

This investigation into language extinction has uncovered a complex process that is closely related to economic fluctuations, technical advancements, cultural dynamics, and globalization. It is essential to identify the main causes of language extinction in order to raise awareness and put mitigation measures in place for the loss of linguistic variety. This research has expanded my awareness of the importance of protecting endangered languages as a student studying linguistics. Maintaining the continuation of our rich language legacy in a world that is always changing is a shared responsibility.
