METHODS OF TEACHING ENGLISH IN SECONDARY SCHOOL

ABSTRACT

Learning English in secondary school is important for developing communication skills and integrating students into the global community. The article discusses modern teaching methods, including the communicative approach, the grammar-translation method, audiolingual and contextual approaches. Effective teaching methods are described: the use of authentic materials, interactive methods, work in pairs and groups, project-based learning. Methods for assessing learning outcomes are provided, such as tests, oral exams, project work and portfolios.

Studying English in secondary school plays an important role in the educational process, contributing to the development of communication skills, broadening the horizons of students and their integration into the global community. In this article we will consider the methodology of teaching English in secondary school, including modern approaches, effective methods and techniques, as well as assessment of learning outcomes.

Theoretical foundations of English language teaching methods

The methodology of teaching English is based on several key theoretical approaches:

  1. Communicative Approach: Emphasizes the importance of using language in real life situations and aims to develop listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.
  2. Grammar-translation method: Based on the study of grammatical rules and translation of texts. This method is used in combination with other approaches to provide a deep understanding of the structure of a language.
  3. Audiolingual Method: Uses listening and repetition, emphasizing correct pronunciation and intonation. Includes work with audio materials and dialogues.
  4. Contextual approach: Involves studying language in the context of culture and intercultural communication. Includes the study of cultural aspects, traditions and customs of English-speaking countries.

Modern methods and techniques of teaching English

  1. Use of authentic materials

Description: Authentic materials include texts, videos and audio recordings created for native speakers.

Examples: Articles from English-language newspapers and magazines, films and TV shows in English, podcasts and interviews.

Advantages: Development of skills in perceiving and understanding live speech, familiarization with current vocabulary and expressions.
