ABSTRACT

With the progress of informatization, people’s worldviews and their abilities to perceive and process information also change, which does not bypass school-age children, including when teaching history. In his lessons, a modern teacher uses new information technologies that contribute to better assimilation and consolidation of lesson material, develop skills of self-education, analysis while studying a large flow of information, skills, and teach pupils give reasons for their own conclusions

Keywords: information technology, methods, pupil, teaching.

Nowadays, all previously collected, and completely new information is transferred into electronic form. The introduction of information technologies, both into the everyday life of society and into the professional activities of each person, is happening very quickly. Over time, informatization also affected the educational process, including its use in history lessons at school. Education is a continuous process of acquiring and assimilating knowledge. In such conditions, the teacher has the responsibility to interest the pupil in acquiring knowledge. Information technologies help to cope with this task.

The rapid growth in the use of electronic technology in educational activities has led to the emergence of such terms as “information technology in education”, “computer technology in education”. Information technology is largely an application for creating new opportunities for the transfer of knowledge, as well as its perception, increasing the involvement of pupils in the cognitive process, and assessing the quality and effectiveness of learning.

A feature of modern information technologies is the ability to work with various types of information: text, graphic, sound, illustration, animation.

There are several areas of application of information technology in the process of teaching history:

1. use of already developed programs when explaining new material, testing, studying historical sources, working with a map, etc. A sufficient amount of material has been accumulated in this area for effective use during the lesson.

2. distance learning. Recently, special attention has been paid to this area of application of information technology in education. Modern methods of communication using Internet networks remove many restrictions to improve distance learning. This allows us to improve and simplify the work of both teachers and pupils within this area.

3. project-based educational programs. It is the most creative and interesting area of application of information technology in education. Thanks to it, space is created for the pupil’s self-expression.

Today, special attention is paid to processing professionally important information. Processing of pedagogical information means the process of the teacher processing the taught material and showing it in a form that is clear to the pupil.

The use of computers increases interest in the subject and allows the teacher to focus pupils' attention on particularly important material during the lesson. Also, an inherent advantage of information technology allows the teacher to save time on displaying  illustrations, tables and diagrams on the board during the lesson, as well as when planning it, preparing everything necessary in advance in electronic format and demonstrating the finished material during the lesson using computer technology.

Considering the methods of using information technology in history lessons, it is worth noting that historical science is multifaceted. The study of this course includes a description of both the past and the present, consideration of concepts, dates, artistic images, documents and sources. Historical science does not stand still, which is why the question of using information technology in teaching history is most relevant.

Work with electronic technologies, such as, for example, a computer, pupils develop self-educational skills, analytical skills while studying a large flow of information, and the ability to draw their own conclusions and give reasons for them.

Information technologies in history lessons can be used in the use of: multimedia presentations of various types. (films with computer animation, a simple slide show with text, tables, diagrams, paintings, portraits, photographs and video clips); flash films (when studying military battles and battles, they clearly show the location of opponents and the course of the battle during the event being studied); ready-made electronic publications (DVDs and CDs, interactive maps of military operations, electronic textbooks, workbooks and encyclopedias).

The advantages of introducing information technology into the history lesson can also include accompanying and supplementing the teacher's story with video and photo fragments, demonstrating and working with graphic material and maps. Information technologies make it possible to activate the educational process by changing the activities of pupils, which increases their efficiency and interest in the subject.

Information technologies, being a set of means and methods for transmitting information, are becoming the main link in the modern understanding of teaching history. The introduction of information technology into school teaching allows teachers to increase efficiency in learning material, motivate children and diversify their classes.
