ABSTRACT

The article examines the peculiarities of the attitude of modern students to various types of mass media (mass media). The main sources of information received by students, their preferences and motives for using certain media are analyzed. Special attention is paid to the impact of digital technologies on changing the perception and consumption of media content among young people.

Keywords: mass media, students, digitalization, Internet, social networks, television, radio, newspapers.

Mass media play an important role in the life of modern society, exerting a significant influence on the formation of public opinion, the dissemination of knowledge and cultural values. Students, as the most active part of the younger generation, are constantly exposed to various sources of information, which makes the study of their attitude to the media especially relevant.

The purpose of this work is to study students' attitudes towards the main types of mass media, identify their preferences and identify the factors influencing the choice of a particular source of information. To achieve this goal, the following tasks were set:

1. Identify the main sources of information for students;

2. To study the motivation for using different types of media;

3. Analyze the changes in the perception and consumption of media content under the influence of digital technologies.

Research methods

An integrated approach was used to conduct the study, including quantitative and qualitative methods of data collection. The main method was a survey conducted among students from different universities in the city of N. A total of 200 people between the ages of 18 and 25 were interviewed. The survey consisted of two parts: the first part included questions about preferences in choosing media outlets, and the second – about attitudes towards specific sources of information and the reasons for their choice.

Additionally, focus groups were used for a deeper analysis of students' opinions on certain aspects of the topic. 8-10 people participated in each group, who discussed their media usage habits and shared their personal experiences.

The results of the study

The main sources of information

The survey results showed that the majority of students prefer to receive information via the Internet (80% of respondents), while social networks are the most popular source (60%). Television ranks second with 30%, followed by radio (15%) and print media (5%).

Motivation for using different types of media

The main reasons for using the Internet and social networks were the convenience of access to information (70%), the ability to quickly update news (65%) and a wide range of content (55%). At the same time, traditional media such as television and radio are chosen primarily for entertainment (40%) and news information (35%).

The impact of digital technology

The analysis showed that digital technologies have significantly changed the perception and consumption of media content among students. More than half of the respondents (55%) noted that they turn to traditional media less often, preferring online platforms. In addition, 45% of respondents indicated the importance of interactivity and the opportunity to participate in content creation, which is typical for social networks and blogs.

Discussion of the results

The data obtained indicate that modern students prefer digital forms of information dissemination, such as the Internet and social networks. This is due not only to the convenience and accessibility of these platforms, but also to the ability to actively interact with content. Traditional media, although they continue to play a certain role, are gradually losing ground to new media.

It is important to note that the results of this study may be limited by the geographical and cultural characteristics of the region where the survey was conducted. Therefore, additional research in other regions and countries is needed to better understand the problem.

Conclusion

The study showed that students' attitudes towards the media have changed significantly under the influence of digital technologies. The Internet and social networks are becoming the main sources of information, displacing traditional media. This requires a revision of approaches to the creation and distribution of media content in order to meet the expectations and needs of a modern audience.

Further research should be aimed at studying the influence of new media on the formation of students' worldview, as well as at analyzing the possible consequences of the transition to a digital environment for traditional media.
