Wearable technologies in construction have huge potential to improve safety and increase productivity on construction sites. Innovations such as sensors and analytics help to improve forecasting and risk management, as well as improve operational efficiency.

Despite the existence of various wearable technologies, many companies are not yet considering the possibility of their introduction into the work process. This article will help readers understand the advantages and disadvantages of such technologies in construction, as well as consider the prospects for their use in the future.

Helmets are one of the most important elements of personal protection on a construction site. They are designed to protect the head from injuries caused by falling tools or building materials, impacts on the structure, as well as from other possible hazards.

Currently, manufacturers offer the latest technological solutions to improve the quality and functionality of helmets. Some of these technological innovations include built-in light indicators that allow you to improve visibility employees in low-light conditions, as well as the possibility of integrating a helmet with additional tools and devices. One of the features of smart helmets is that they can timely warn the employee about a possible danger, thanks to the introduction of sensors in them that can detect potentially dangerous situations and send an appropriate warning. The advantages of using smart helmets at a construction site include the increased workplace safety, the ability to increase productivity by reducing the time spent searching and diagnostics of problems, as well as reducing the cost of replacement and maintenance of helmets, due to the durability of materials and functionality of these wearable devices.

Smart helmets can be a useful tool for management security at the construction site. The data collected from the sensors can be transferred to the cloud storage, where they can be analyzed and identify the most dangerous places on the construction site. This will allow managers and safety engineers to take more effective precautions during construction work.

In addition, the use of smart helmets can increase the level of communication between employees, which can lead to improvement coordination and reduction of the risk of conflict situations in the workplace. For example, they can be used to transmit messages and alerts between workers, which can greatly simplify the process of interaction on the construction site.

The use of smart helmets in construction can become one of the most effective ways to improve safety and increase productivity in the workplace. However, before using such technologies, it is necessary to make sure that they comply with regulatory requirements, meet the requirements and take all necessary measures to train the staff.

Boots are one of the most important elements of equipment at a construction site. Properly chosen shoes can provide comfort and reduce fatigue. In addition, boots can protect your feet from dangerous influences, such as falling objects, sharp objects on the ground, and other potential hazards. With the development of technologies in the field of safety and ergonomics, new technological solutions have appeared to improve shoes on the construction site. For example, some models are equipped with sensors that can detect the level of leg fatigue and warn workers about the need for a rest break. Smart shoes can also be equipped with a GPS module that can help employees determine their location on the construction site and plan work routes. Such equipment simplifies the process of coordinating workers at the construction site and reduces time, spent on movement between construction sites.

One of the main advantages of using smart shoes is their ability to assist workers in making more informed decisions in relation to their health and safety in the workplace. For example, sensors in shoes are able to notify an employee about being in a high-risk area and encourage him to make appropriate decisions for protection.

When choosing smart shoes, it is also necessary to take into account factors related to comfort and convenience. They should be light and flexible so as not to restrict the movement of the worker and have good ventilation to prevent overheating of the legs.

Technological innovations can also be related to materials from which shoes are made. New materials, such as carbon fibers, can significantly increase the strength and resistance of shoes to wear and external factors.

In general, the use of smart shoes in construction has many advantages related to improving safety and work efficiency, improving comfort and convenience for workers. However, as with any new technology, it is necessary to ensure the compliance of smart shoes safety and quality requirements, as well as train staff and ensure the necessary technical support for their effective use.

Glasses also play an important role in ensuring safety during construction works. They can protect workers' eyes from exposure to dust and fine particles, as well as from harmful ultraviolet radiation.

Modern technological innovations in glasses may include the use of materials that increase the stability and strength of equipment, as well as the addition of new features such as built-in cameras and sensors. This allows employees to get more accurate data about in the process of work, as well as record and transmit information for further analysis and use. The features of wearing smart glasses can be associated with convenience and comfort during prolonged use. They should be light and not cause pressure on the nose and ears of the employee. They should also have a sufficiently long battery life on a single charge.

In addition, smart glasses can help reduce the time for training new employees and reduce the number of mistakes made during the work process. They can also be used for performance analysis and optimization processes at the construction site, which can save the company time and money.

The benefits of using smart glasses on a construction site include increased safety, efficiency and accuracy of work, as well as improved communication and collaboration between employees. For example, smart glasses can provide employees with additional information about the objects; allow them to receive instructions and feedback from their superiors in real time, as well as share data and forecasts with colleagues.

However, despite all the advantages, the use of smart glasses on a construction site may also have its limitations and disadvantages. For example, the high cost of some models may not be available to small companies or private entrepreneurs. Also, employees can face technical problems and difficulties when using smart glasses, such as poor image quality or low data transfer rate.

A comparative analysis of technological innovations in helmets, boots and glasses showed that all three categories of wearable technologies have similar capabilities and advantages. Technological innovations such as built-in sensors, GPS modules and cameras provide workers with more information about their surroundings and their own condition, as well as improve communication between different parts of the construction site.

The benefits of using wearable devices at a construction site include improving worker safety, improving productivity, reducing the number of errors and reducing the time for training new employees. However, disadvantages also exist, for example, high cost, possible technical problems and difficulties in staff training.

Today, the above technologies do not seem to be such a distant future, since some countries and companies have already managed to create working prototypes of wearable technologies:

1. Helmets with a security system and smart communication: In China, Baidu Company has developed a "smart" helmet "DuLight", which includes a fall warning system and a smart sound player to facilitate communications at the construction site.

2. Shoes with motion and impact sensors: In the USA, SolePower Company has developed smart Powerlace shoes that provide additional energy due to built-in motion and impact sensors.

3. Glasses with augmented reality and camera: American company DAQRI has developed smart glasses that help builders see plans and instructions on the construction site in augmented reality, and also have a built-in camera for photo and video documentation of the process.

4. Wearable sensors for health monitoring: Triax Technologies Company from Connecticut has developed wearable sensors to monitor the health and safety of builders on the construction site. These sensors allow you to monitor physical activity and fatigue levels, as well as warn about possible dangers in the workplace.

5. Smart seat belts: In the USA, Honeywell Company has developed smart seat belts that track the movements and position of the builder on the construction site, warn of possible dangers and can automatically shut down in case of an accident. These and other examples demonstrate how wearable technologies can improve the safety, efficiency and accuracy of work on the construction site.

In conclusion it should be noted that the development of the use of wearable technologies in construction does not stand still. The development of technologies and the reduction in the cost of production of smart helmets, boots and glasses will make them more accessible to a wide audience. However, the use of smart technologies on construction sites requires the development of standards and rules of use, as well as a sufficient level of staff training to effectively apply these technologies in their work.
